About Us
“Hecho Con Amor” (Made With Love) Corinthians 16:14… is a Verse that embodies the essence of everything we create at El Guero y La Flaca Craft Barbecue & Desserts. Justin “Guero” and Jessica “Flaca” are a husband-and-wife duo who bring you exceptional Texas-style barbecue with a unique Latin twist. Their journey began in late 2019, but it was abruptly halted by the COVID-19 pandemic in early March 2020.
Justin, a machinist by trade since just after high school, found himself facing challenges when his company was forced to sell due to the global standstill. These struggles took a toll on his mental health, leading to a deep depression that lasted for over three years. During this time, Guero lost interest in everything, including cooking.
Determined to help her love and best friend, Flaca “Jessica” decided to sign them up as barbecue food vendors for a local farmers market in early 2023. Without letting Justin know until two weeks prior, Justin was upset but decided to go for it! They hit the ground running and haven’t stopped since. Their passion for the Kitchen has not only brought them success but has also led to numerous accolades. They have been featured on KTLA 5, Fox 11 “Good Day La”, Power 106’s Brown Bag, and even placed third in a national live fire competition called “Heritage Fire” in the last two years. This competition showcased a few of California’s finest Michelin-starred restaurants and chefs.
Barbecue has become more than just a culinary passion for Guero and Flaca; it has been a source of healing and a way to find their true love. Come and experience the delicious flavors of their canvas and let us know what you think!
